About SAB

The Student Advisory Board is a group of students that represents the different class standings and tracks of the Electrical and Computer Engineering department of the College of Engineering at UH Manoa.

We understand that your college experience is heavily influenced by the College of Engineering, so SAB acts as a bridge to communicate student concerns and suggestions to faculty and our industry partners. We strive to improve the college experience for students by communicating concerns SAB has experienced first hand or has been brought up by our peers.

If you are interested in joining SAB, please contact us at ieee@hawaii.edu, or send us a message through our Contact Us page!

Fall 2020 Summary

October Update

Following our first meeting with IAB and Dr Shiroma, SAB reached out to students about the transition to online class following the COVID-19 pandemic. The survey was sent out through email and held at the IEEE general meeting. Furthermore, we brought up the idea of creating a website for SAB to host an online suggestion. We collaborated with IEEE Student branch to create the website we are on right now. The slides below contain the information that was presented by SAB.

Zoom with Shiroma Fall 2020

To close out the Fall 2020 semester, SAB and IEEE collaborated with the EE Department Chair, Dr. Wayne Shiroma, to host a Q&A style event. Students were encouraged to submit any questions or raise any suggestions directly to Dr. Shiroma. The event was moderated by SAB Chair Christopher Agcanas, with questions ranging from the format of the upcoming 2021 AY to safety precautions and COVID procedures. See all the questions and answers by pressing the Meeting Minutes button.

Status of Suggestions

Students are concerned about missing assignments and overwhelmed with the multiple websites need to do homework.

SAB has presented this concern to Dr. Shiroma and IAB.

Potential solutions presented (see October Update):

  1. Having assignments assigned and submitted to a single website

  2. Centralized place to submit assignments

  3. Links provided in Laulima

Lab reports are too vague

SAB has reviewed the concern and is currently brainstorming potential solutions to present.

This suggestion was brought up during the Zoom with Shiroma event.
